Who are we?
Sundar Studio is the vision of Achan and Kristy Bedi, a husband and wife team with a dream of bringing authentic, high quality, beautiful Indian made products to Aotearoa. They are the same team behind the much loved Aho Creative products and bring the same commitment to social and environmental responsibility to Sundar Studio.
Born of their collective love of handmade artisanal textile and homewares, Sundar Studio is a shared passion for transparent, sustainable, ethical and values driven business for greater social good and a desire to wear, clothe their babies, adorn their home and share with friends the exquisite beauty of high quality Indian made products.
Rooted in an expression of cultural identity and a legacy of artisanal excellence spanning generations, Sundar Studio serves as an homage to Achan's whakapapa—a journey that traverses from the majestic foothills of the Himalayas in modern-day Pakistan to the vibrant streets of New Delhi, India, and finally to the serene shores of Ōtautahi, Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Who + What is 'Sundar'?
Sundar, in Sanskrit, literally means Beautiful, Attractive.
Sundar also was the name of one of our Founder’s Dadaji - paternal grandfather.
Sundar Singh was born and raised in the Punjab, a crossroads of 5 rivers criss crossing the northern part of the Indian Subcontinent. In 1947 as India secured independence from British rule, Punjab was also divided into two countries, and Sundar found himself fleeing, a refugee in a new land, a newly formed country. India.
And it was from here, he started again. Rebuilding a beautiful life and a future for his children and a legacy for theirs.
And so it is with his brave, proud and courageous spirit, we aim to bring a little of the beauty of India to you here in Aotearoa, and to hold closely the threads that are interwoven into our children that call us back to our ancestral lands, customs and culture.
